Speed Dating: A Brief History

When Rabbi Yaacov Deyo set up a singles event at a Los Angeles coffeehouse in 1998, he had no idea that his unique spin on ‘singles night’ would go viral. The Rabbi’s idea was to get a bunch of single Jewish guys and gals in the same room, give them 10 min to talk to each person, keep track of who liked each other and follow up these matches so they could set up future dates themselves. Within a year, Jews and Gentiles alike were setting up speed dating events all over the place. The advantage of speed dating is that it’s a great way to meet people, and unlike online dating it gives a chance for chemistry to do what a profile picture never could. So ‘Buckle up, Buttercup’ and book your spot at RSG’s first Valentine’s Day speed dating event…
